Engage Trends - Categories
Data Scope Overview
- Category trends in this report only include categories featured in at least two distinct survey send dates.
- For each qualifying category, a line chart displays the trend of its average score over time, grouped by survey send date.
- Only scale question types are included in these category trends. The eNPS question type is tracked separately under the "Custom Trend" due to its unique scale.
How are Category Trend Scores Calculated?
For each survey send date, the category score is calculated as the average of all scale question responses within that category across all surveys sent on that date.
Example 1: If a "Manager Effectiveness" category with two scale questions was included in a single survey sent on February 15, 2024, the category trend score for that date is the average of those two responses.
Example 2: If the "Manager Effectiveness" category appeared in two surveys sent on February 15, 2024—one with two scale questions and another with three—the category trend score for that date is the average of all five scale question responses.
Top Trends
- Top Trending Categories highlight up to five categories showing the most significant positive improvement and up to five categories with the most decline.
- Overall progress for each category is calculated by determining the percentage change between its most recent average score and its oldest average score within the selected timeframe, using the Time Range filter.

Progress Over Time
- Admins can break down the graph by attribute of interest. Note that when the Audience slicing page filter is applied, the “Compare By” filter for this chart will disappear. Instead, the Trend graph and the Attributes breakdown table will show the sliced data for the group selected in the Audience slicing page filter.
- Admins can hover over the chart and see detailed scores for each data point. Clicking on “Go to survey” will open the report for that survey in a new tab, allowing Admins to dive into the details and gain more context around that data point.
Breakdown
